I have a 1982 xs400j maxim that I am trying to source carb manifold boots for and I see that the part numbers are specific for 1982 xs400j and xs400rj but the other model 400's have a different model number. Does anyone have knowledge of what boots crossover to other bikes?

Go to Partzilla.com and put your part number in the search box and hit enter. When you are on the screen for the part, scroll down and you will find box called "Related Fitment" which will list any Yamaha bikes that also use the same part.

Thanks for the parts search tip Cap! Sadly all the crossovers for the xs400j part number (12R-13586-00-00) are "unavailable" which I believe are the monoshock versions for these 2 years. I have ordered a set that is the part number 2A2-13586-00-00 which is from the same year xs400sj. Hopefully those will work and get rid of my pesky air leak.

I have also looked at some Yamaha parts that have the whole number the same other than the first three digits and wondered whether they were the same part. I guess I have been hoping that the first three digits are the model code and the remainder are the actual part, which might fit many models.

Please let us know what you find out with the part you ordered as you might be on to something.
