my new project/ first bike/81 xs400h

Man,that would be something to behold! If you lived close to a plater, that would be something to explore. There used to be lots of plating shops where I lived in Dallas.I got many bolts, small parts chromed for a small amount of money. Now,I would imagine, with all of the regulations,EPA,and all that crap,It would cost a lot to get stuff like that done.We all pay $$$$$for gas because of these same regs.Lots of oil left in Texas,I've seen the capped off wells. lha:banghead:

well you gotta justify the shit in the middle east somehow right? don't fret though, we still pay more than you at the pump up north. This week, $1.40 a Litre making it $5.60 a gallon. But its still worse in Europe so i don't complain. Another reason i'm buying a bike :bike:

All of our 3 countries have oil[Canada with oil sands,G.B.with BP,others,U.S.A.with huge domestic, untapped sources]and we're all supposedly held hostage to the middle East[US gets 4-6 percent there]. lha

80% of the fuel is tax :banghead:

lol! thanks guys, glad you all like it:thumbsup: im a fan of it too:D

I agree ace, the rear wheel with the refelctor ring looks mint, I think ill paint the front flat back to match and see if i can find a reflector ring for the gsxr rim...thats the easiest for now, may do white later after I get it all dialed in, till then ill rock the blue front. plus those gsxr calipers are powdercoated in metalic green:banghead:, ill have to rebuild them and beadblast the to paint them propperly, but for now im gona wait as well

fuel is up to 4.20 a gal around my parts, 4.30 for diesel... cant wait for the bike :bike:

got the engine in today, went nice untill the tape i used to protect the frame pulled off some paint in spots, guess some spots havent cured 100% yet...easy to touch up tho :)

im stalling on the headlight mount, ive got NO clue how to mount it and I need to keep it because i havnt yet eliminated the ratsnest

hopefully ill get the first ride later this week, should make some more progress tomorro once i can mount the carbs an figure out where im going to hide the battery... more pics tomorro :D

ht, im with you on the bronze wheels, they would look bitching in that or that gold anodized look, wish icould have pickd up forks that allready have that color but ehh next bike...

got me some more done today, mounted the battery above the filters, it fits good but I needed to shoot the tank up a bit more, also mounted the ignition box above the carbs and some other odds and ends.

did a ton of clearancing with the die grinder on the sidecover, its gona be ssooooo close, good chance that the clutch linkage will hit the chain/sprocket

Ive mounted the harnes for the fist time, shortened some wires going to the back and I need to do lot more, I know the system has a ton of duplicates so ill have to address that

can anyone tell me where the main ground on a stock harness is? ive got no idea where it should be...nor is there a specific spot on the harness where there is an eye for it.

couple pics of it all mocked up, Im not a fan of how low that kickstand puts the bike:doh:, I may have to extend it.

the battery...

hey dude, do you have any pictures of your exhaust build? its similar to what i was planning to do and i want to see how you did it. Did you use the stock piping? My plan is to use the stock headers, clock them into the centre of the bike and Y-pipe it under the motor. if it sits too tight in the front, throw some pie-cuts in. I think it should be really easy as i have a earlier model with an inboard motor mount

its looking as good as I imagined it. thanks for the copious pictures! you can never have enough in a build thread

I love the exhaust man this bike is sick. I am in love. I think this might be might favoirte build ever I just love how you did the entire back of the bike I like how you painted the rear black. nice color scheme I can't wait to see this finished

thanks ace, once you do get a bike... dont feel scared to hack into it thats all I did, lol a sawzall fuels inspiration

skills, do-boy... every black wire on the bike is ground correct? therefore I should be able to splice into it everywhere...? ....im a half of a step away from making my own harness, ive got no patience for chasing this harness if it starts throwing me for loops

and yes pictures will be pleniful... it helps me visualize the build, when Im bored I pop out the phone and think of what im going to do next.

I had a neighbor come over today and talk about the bike, thne he proceded to tell me about how he junked a 77 xs650 about 3 weeks ago.... UGHH...the next bike will be a 650 bobber

looking good ahale. i was worried about that swing arm but painting it black really hides the mass quite well.

i'm almost positive yea, that the black wires are ground. just had a quick look at my bike. Im THIS close to building a harness too, but my sore weakness is wiring/electricity. mine seems so effed up so far.

thanks ahale When I get the cash to hack into it I will for sure. I wanna learn all of this stuff but currently am low on funds. So for now I'll just watch your awsome build lol
