exhaust wrap

I just wrapped my pipes a couple weeks ago and got the 2" 25' roll and ran out with about 4" left to cover on the second pipe :banghead: So i just clamped it off ordered another roll and fixed it the following week. But I'd get the longer roll Its better to have too much than not enough... in my opinion.

I just did a rough calculation (I also plan on wrapping at least my headers) and I came out with needing approx 40 feet of the 2" wrap. That was 50% overlap and about 7 feet of 1.5" pipe (with 1/4" overlap it would be cutting it really close: 24').

I've used the Cool It/Thermo Tec brand (I think I got it at Autozone) on a bike and a scooter I used to have. It worked pretty well. It was pretty easy to work with. Getting it tight and uniform is the biggest challenge, but the best part is that it's impossible to screw up as you go along...if something's not right...just unwrap a little bit and re-wrap.

i just wrapped my 400, squeeked by with a 25' roll. i cut the length in half, rolled them up and put the rolls in a bucket of water for a couple hours. it allowed me to roll them super tight, the wrap seemed alot easier to work with wet. i wrapped mine tail to tip, i tried to keep the 1/2 overlap through out the pipe. it makes the 'pea shooter' pipes look a little bigger, lol

Well I went with the 50' and am happy with it. I got them wrapped and it all went well. Besides the fact that I put the exhaust ring crushers in backwards and had a huge leak. After I turned them around it was all good.

take a look

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

It looks great... except the clamps. I tried the SS zip ties, which suck, but the clamps look so big!

I've heard people use SS wire twisted to hold on the wrap, but I can't see that holding too long. Anyone have any other ideas for clamping that doesn't look like leftover plumbing supplies?

I use the SS wire as I have the twist pliers i use for locking the bolts

been on for 1000 miles and no sign of coming loose.

Remove all the bolts and then remove the pipes? Not much more to be said haha, pretty straight forward. Take a look at how the flanges etc mount at the engine and you're good to go
