You can start with prepped / painted or nice chrome - regardless, the wrap will hold moisture and rot the pipes over time. Personally, I think wrapping pipes is %@$#* stupid , however that's what the kids want

Final checks, adjustments and tweaks. Took it for some shake-down rides with low fuel in the tank . Just need to get that fuel cap gasket from mikesxs and I will ride it everywhere for a week to make sure there are no niggles. Then it's off to the hipsters with it !

Inside bike guy joke ( I was being sarcastic regarding the need to trap and hold moisture- everyone knows wrapping pipes on a bike serves absolutely zero function other than promoting rust .... but the kids think it looks cool and well, it is a sheeple bike so it has to be there. ) at least...

wiring again, since I had the bucket off to change the look and painted the ears I made I needed something to trap and hold moisture to ensure the headers rot in a timely fashion... so this pipe wrap should do the job !! It's light brownish.. but does not photopic well chocolate...

XS360 Bratstyle Replica- Codenamed: Sheeple II

I had stripped the top / sides and sanded the tank for the "raw" bare metal look , however the underside was still very yellow. I threw a scuff at it and sprayed it aluminum. Tried something different. I applied a Yammy stencil to each side, right over the dings and dents, so it will have a...

a proper brat needs passenger pegs for the lady hipsters to ride along. I mean this will be a chick magnet, no? the bike didn't come with any, so I cut down these from a yamasomthing , cleaned up and pinned fixed some exhaust header cracks cleaned up the petcock.. I...

The front brake cable was 90mm too long, so I cut it down and made a new cable end from this bolt to solder on I'm using only right switchgear/ throttle housing. The kill switch was in crumbs and since this is a kick only bike without a stock starter button on that side, I'm moving...

XS360 Bratstyle Replica- Codenamed: Sheeple II

With the wheels off to pop on new tubes and tires, I found the rear drum shoes to be nearly new and the front to be " good 'nuff " . I gave the bearings / seals some good grease. The headstock bearing were dry, but at least 37 of 38 of the rusty little buggers were there ! I had a...

The weather improved and the salt has washed off the roads... so of course I have been out terrorizing the local peasants on my bikes for the past few weeks. But it's time to finish up the XS360 Bratstyle Replica ! I poked at the layers of primer and paint that were under the Yellow (that...

Thoughts on whether to buy a TX500?

I'm going to put it up for adoption this spring. I'm getting too old and frail for racer ergonomics with clip-ons/ rear sets.

Found a tail light that mirrors the profile of the headlamp I will fit it on top of the fender "here" I can't think of anything else ... so that completes the fab and mock-up process  It's extremely cold out there , so it may be awhile before I finish up with the...

    Looking for replacement shift lever

The closest thing I have is this cast unit that has quite a clearance bend for a much wider case cover : Looks like that Mikes lever might be the way to go if you can not locate an original for a decent price.

    Looking for replacement shift lever

That's part # 2L1-18111-00-00, the same lever from 1976-1982 The shift shaft is standard Yamaha 11.35mm, 30 tooth spline. I might have a similar stock shifter left over from something I installed rear sets or forward controls on. I will dig through the bins tomorrow for you. It just depends...

XS360 Bratstyle Replica- Codenamed: Sheeple II

when I saw the mechanical relay regulator, I thought at first someone had installed an old style unit from a much older bike.,, so I asked the question here: http://www.xs400.com/forum/showpost.php?p=142454&postcount=4 As far as I can tell, Yam was using solid state units as early as '73...
