Considering EFI; What type of ignition system on 82 xs400rj?

Yeah you're right, aircraft just a cruise rpm and keep it there, so fuel system doesn't have to be on the fly like a road vehicles fuel system, constantly on and off the throttle. LoL I always like to think outside the box. I was looking online and it seems there are a few EFI options out...

Bike starts up & revs fine, then won't rev up after 30sec of running

When you had apart you checked the float height and needle and seat? Could be the jet needle is not seating properly with the main jet causing it to draw to much fuel? Pilot jet in the idle air circuit could be backed out to much causing it to draw to much fuel. Choke plunger stuck causing the...

Considering EFI; What type of ignition system on 82 xs400rj?

I have been toying around with the idea of a mechanic fuel injection system for my bike as well, thinking of ways that I could do it. Here is what my basic idea was, I'm sure that it could be adapted for an electrical though. Components: 1. Throttle body 2. Two Fuel Nozzles with manifold 3...

    1984 XS400 SECA Cafesque Build

I think you made the right move, aircraft maintenance is a shit game lol. Yeah that chamber appearently has little semi valve set up with these little bleed holes (from what I read online) and they can get clogged preventing the chamber from mixing that A/F mixture. I should check if mine are...

Yeah you got to love replacement stuff like that. Breaker points can be a pain without proper equipment to time them, however I wish my bike had a breaker point ignition because its something you can repair without having to replacement boxes etc, because with the ignition I have you can't...

    Turn Signals Don't Flash

LED lights are a pain with these old relays. I ended up throwing some resistors in line with with the leds to draw the same load as the original lights. Still flash a little faster then normal but I didnt know about these LED relays. Thats useful to know now thanks!

    1984 XS400 SECA Cafesque Build

Thanks for the input. I always forget about that YICS because the little emblems are missing and I can't find replacements! The YICS ibtroduces more issues in the tuning because I don't know if they may be blocked. I was able to syn. The engine up (fairly decent) without blocking them so...

    1984 XS400 SECA Cafesque Build

Yeah it could benefit from the spark advance, unfortunately its not an easy adjustment as you said the mounting holes would need to be elongated. I want to play around with hooking up EGT probes on the exhausts and record the data of the EGTs and see what type of temps I am getting vs. RPM...

Wow thats great looking, and how can you beat that price! I really like the fiberglass work on the seat you did with that light as well. Shame that the paint didn't hold up for you, I am having the same problem on mine, another repaint I am dreading. Do you have plans to do anything with the...

    1984 XS400 SECA Cafesque Build

Hello Everyone, long time no post, however I didn't want to post until I had a bike to actually contribute some information and pictures with. So my bike is a 1984 Yamaha XS400 Seca, my wife and in laws bought it for me for my birthday last year in 2015. Over the winter I had worked on it, and...

    Clicking/ Binding Issue

Hey Guys hows it going. Yesterday I came home and lately I have been noticing a weird click in the back end of the bike. Upon further inspection I found that if I rotated the tire, at a certain point it was binding up. The chain is going super loose and super tight. I pulled off the drive...

Peacock on Prime, now idle too high and Air filter full of fuel

Hey Tim welcome, Sounds like the needle in the float for the carb is not seating properly. In the PRI position fuel is able to free flow to fill the bowl for prime, in the ON position it uses suction in the intake manifold(boot) to pull on a diaphragm inside the fuel selector valve. If let on...

    1981 XS400 Special, no spark

The Seca has a cutoff relay under the seat, not sure if the 81 is the same but mine had an issue where is was grounding out through that relay. Unplugged the relay and it now functions so I am wondering if you might have the same thing which is grounding your ignition.

Hello! New member with Seca Build

Been working on my SECA build, got the tail section completely finished, and frame repainted in gloss black. Painted the forks, and cleaned/serviced/ and painted the brake caliper. I turned on a lathe a plug to remove the cable tach in favour for an electric on. You will see the finished...
