The motors in the SECA and Maxim are the same as well as many other components.... I should have noted the Maxim was also produced in '84, but I own SECA(s), so I didn't think about it..... sorry.... the dealer should have listings for 1984.... the SECA is a XS400R and the Maxim is a XS400J...

How many miles are on the bolts? I have always reused bolts and nuts and never had a problem, but nothing ever had more than about 30K on it and it was rebuilt just to rebuild it .... not because it was trashed..... Big D- In most situations I would be an outcast ... here I am merely normal ...

First, I have never tried to mount '77 bags on an '80, but IMHO with a little work and some adaptation they would work, BUT that said..... that is way too much for those bags.... you can probably pick up a set (maybe for an '80) at a swap meet for $100/$150 or less. Those are too much...

Pictures? Get it running before you start customizing .... some people do it backwards and burn a lot of money... I agree with mounting struts.... at least before trying to modify the frame with a hardtail. Since you are going to get it running before you start customizing, if it is ridable...

Compression will depend on wrist pin-crown height as well ....

After a period of time do the electrics come back on until you press starter button again? If so, I would suspect a starter relay or the starter .... but check battery first.... [emoji6] P.S. This is a handy item for any garage.... I installed a set of smaller clamps to make it more motorcycle...

My bad.... I have never really searched for pistons much... where I came from if a motor was bad enough to need pistons it was scrapped for aluminum (except two-strokes). Too much work to pull a motor apart when you could buy another bike for the price of parts ..... times have changed though....

Why not use the a stock replacement piston?? http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/50041ea7f8700209bc7868fe/crankshaft-piston This is just one place; I imagine there are more . . . you can probably get them from Yamaha. Why make things difficult.... just my thought on it.... Nad
