What did you do with your XS today?

Noted. I was wondering why the fuse block has two extra slots. There's also a white wire(cloth wrapped) that just goes to nothing. I plan on a frame off cafe build this winter if I don't sell it, so the wiring just has to get me through the summer

What did you do with your XS today?

Found the problem! Dash lights were flickering when moved around wires. See that big glob of melted plastic? There were two bullet-style connectors wrapped in a heap of electrical tape that melted. I put new ends on all the wires and she fired up as normal. I installed my new solenoid since I...

What did you do with your XS today?

Went out for a ride today and ended up pushing the bike 4 miles back home! Was merging on to a busy road and it just died while giving it decent throttle. Looks to be like an electrical short somewhere in the mess of wires under the seat. The bike starts right up for a second, will stay running...

Rpm takes forever to lower after pulling in clutch or letting off throttle

The starting fluid trick is exactly what you need to do. Also make sure your throttle cable is routed correctly

Rpm takes forever to lower after pulling in clutch or letting off throttle

Check your vacuum line from the peacock to the carb boot and check the rubber plug in the other carb boot. Make sure all clamps on the intake are tight.

Me too, looks beefier. I wonder if the fins on it do a better job of cooling.

What did you do with your XS today?

Started cleaning up the motor on the black one and started pulling parts off to remove the motor on the red parts bike for a rebuild. I've noticed they're two different styles. Not entirely sure why, just an observation 78 XS400 special 78 XS400-2E

Well now that I'm done throwing my temper tantrum and I've relaxed a little, friday I ended up buying the bike back. I was determined to get it running good so I worked on it until it was good. Here's what I found -ended up removing the rubber vibration dampener under the battery because the...

I'm about to throw the XS in the lake...

You have got to be getting annoyed with me by now haha Went to start my bike today, it sputtered once and then nothing. Pulled plugs and they were a little wet near the threads but the center and electrode were dry. After a few(10) generous kicks it fired up and I revved it. Seemed to rev...

I'm about to throw the XS in the lake...

Just idle. I haven't taken it out on a proper ride yet. My only bike experience is from dirt bikes when I was a kid, I've never even rode a motorcycle on the road before. So the idea of riding a bike on main roads that isn't 100% scares the shit out of me. Pulling up to a red light/stop sign and...
