    Welding on a rear hoop

It looks like you could just take some round stock that is the same size as the ID of the tubing and put a kink in it. Some time with the torch to get it red hot and a couple heavy hammer swings should get you the right bend. Then use the grinder to relieve the inside corner of the slug so both...

    Welding on a rear hoop

A picture might clarify things. In my opinion slugs are definitely the right thing to do, and I would put in the extra effort to make them work. However, I have welded plenty of cages and other 'structural' members by simply butt joining tubing and I haven't had any major failures. So using the...

    Blu's XS400 Brat Style

That is a good place to start on the jetting, but I would order the next size up and next size down just so you have them on hand. Nothing more frustrating than trying to tune and not having the right size jets. Also 54mm are what I used although I'm running a DOHC but I believe both bikes have...

    Gear Indicator Build

You can probably do this without a lathe. The hole could likely be bored with your choice of drill. This hole size would have to be matched to some standard size stock you have laying around or what they have on McMaster. The fit does not have to be perfect as the epoxy can be used to make up...

    Gear Indicator Build

I bought a new electronic speedo/tach combo which happened to have gear indicator inputs so I figured I may as well make use of them. Making a indicator switch has been done before but not well documented so here it goes. Start this project by removing the chain guard from the side of the...

    Oil pressure sender

The sensor is a ground interrupt. I believe the circuit is normally closed and is only open when oil pressure is high enough. You should be able to test continuity from the sensor to ground when the bike is running and not. Zero ohms when not running. Open line when there is pressure.

How does one get a response

My mistake. It is either 1:5 or 5:1. It's the same ratio but different tachs are listed with one or the other.

How does one get a response

I believe it is the same as any other xs400 and most Japanese bikes. 2240:60 speedo. 1.5:1 tach.

    82' xs400 cafe racer seat

That's not an 82. In 82 they switched to DOHC and monoshock. That being said if you have a welder and a sewing machine, make a seat. If you don't you could check out dime city or Mike's XS.

    Pod Conversion - Help needed

It may conflict with what your intentions with the pod filters but, if at all possible I would strongly suggest using an "H" pipe or some type of connection between the two carb inlets. This helped me drastically in making consistent pulls when I was tuning my DOHC with pods. By "H" I basically...
