Good info, as my screen name suggests i'm mostly a Honda guy. My first sreet bike was a 73 TX500 and i have a couple xs 650's now. never owned a xs400 but always liked them.

I didnt know they were still using drum brakes up front in 80. Sure looks like a early 70's honda hub.

Well last evening I put the 400 engine in the 500 frame, it fit in the cradle fine and would be easy to fab some mounts. But the 500 frame has two front down tubes and the exhuast ports in the 400 engine line up directly with the down tubes. It can be done but would have to remove the two down...

HI i'm new here but been on the xs650 and cb750 forum for a long time. I picked up a 75 xs 500 with a complety trashed engine. I have a 79 xs400 engine that runs, wondering if any one has done this swap before. Thanks for having me here too.
