    DOHC Maxim Oil Strainer

The strainer part was part of the gasket and was all as one piece. The replacements have removed the strainer screen and is more a block off now.

    Clutch Adjustment

You need a deep 12mm socket, pair of vise grips and a strong screw driver. Clamp vice grips to socket and insert screwdriver through socket. Place socket into nut and screw driver on to screw. If you don't have a way to secure the mechanism it will end up turning on you. The screwdriver holds...

What did you do with your XS today?

Plugs are way to white. They need to a nice golden brown and unfortunately I live in Canada and ethanol free gas is not easy to get

What did you do with your XS today?

So while riding lately I have what I can only describe as a knock when at certain RPMs and can get louder or more occuring as the bike gets hotter. I figured today I would do a valve check but before I got that far I pulled the plugs and well I think I know what the knock is from... Time for...

    DOHC Maxim Oil Strainer

Does anyone know why or maybe when Yamaha stopped the use of the strainer screen? I looked at cmsnl and they don't show it but instead show a gasket instead. Mine shredded into 3 pieces so I put a gasket in place but was curious of the answer.

What did you do with your XS today?

Cleaned out what seemed to be the equivalent of the bikes life of grease and oil from behind the sprocket cover. Now to move onto plugs, wires, and caps.

    Maxim Build

Well the bike has been repainted at some point as its missing the tank badges. Otherwise clean little bike but you will learn the grips suck and the bar mounted choke control is annoying. But they are fun little bikes and don't be afraid to ride the snot out of it. I've had mine right up to 9k

Key gives me lights but nothing else

So on my bike they removed the original fuse box and put in twist lock with glass fuses. Each time I sat on my bike it would stop the start button from working. I found the fuse causing this and stretched the spring inside and no issues. I would check the wiring for the ignition fuse if it...

So since I prefer the look of the spokes vs swirl if I found a rear spoked wheel would it bolt straight up?

    82 XS400 Maxim

Figured I would introduce this bike with a better intro and talk a bit about it. I picked up this girl for $1100 CAD with only 22,000km on the odometer. The guy I bought it from said that he mostly maintained it and rode it. After a few days of riding this little bikes move along pretty good...

What did you do with your XS today?

Discovered PO felt the need to torque the oil filter cover on with he-man strength and cracked it. Took it off and it fell apart in 3 pieces.... Time to hunt for that or a Kawasaki replacement.

    New XS400 Maxim Owner

Just picked up a 82 XS400 with only 22,000km on it and has been looked after pretty well. It needs a few things but nothing major and over the winter it will be the time to clean it up. As it was late this is the only picture I can provide at the time lol.
