    '82 XS400SE Idle mixture/pilot screws

I heard no popping. The screw on the left carb was 3 1/2 turns out, the screw on the right carb was 4 turns out. Does that sound right? I adjusted the right screw down to 3 turns because I heard no difference between 4 and 3

    '82 XS400SE Idle mixture/pilot screws

So I'm thinking of adjusting these. There are 2 right, one for each carb? Should they be adjusted the same amount of turns? Anyone know factory settings? I see different things depending on where I look. In the Haynes I got it says 1- 1 1/4. In the online manual here it says 2 1/2 Also, it...

    Leaking oil?

So I put everything back together and put in some new motor oil. It's 10x better than before. Everything is smooth. I pull into the garage after a ride, turn it off and press the clutch lever one last time. Then I hear something pop. The lever is now loose. Typical. Looks like the end behind the...

    Leaking oil?

Ok, so it looks normal. Have no idea what the previous owner used but I think it was time for a change so maybe I just need new motor oil. I'm gonna put it back together and fill it up and see what happens

    Leaking oil?

I took the plates off, soaked them in motor oil, and put them back on. So they should be soaked in oil when I put them back on? Doesn't the oil stick the plates together? When I press the lever, sometimes the first plate/plates goes with the pressure plate when it moves out. Is that normal...

    Leaking oil?

Thanks. I'll take a look at this tomorrow :) Oh also. Do I need a special tool for these screws? It looks like regular screwdriver screw but it doesn't work. The screwdriver just slips when i try. I've tried other things but they won't budge

    Leaking oil?

I took the cover off and the plates are stuck together. Nothing happens when I press the clutch lever. The pressure plate moves out but the other plates are not moving one inch which they should. So I'm gonna remove them but should I clean them or something? Or just put them back on right away...

    Leaking oil?

Thanks for the suggestions. The clutch adjustment didn't work. What do you mean with "kicking the engine over with the kick starter"? Bear with me, I'm from Sweden so I may not get everything at first :p Should I pull in the clutch lever, in gear, while using the kickstarter, with the ignition...

    Leaking oil?

The engagement isn't poor, it just doesn't take at all. Can this be fixed by just adjusting the screw? When I try to push the bike forward when it's in gear with the clutch handle pressed in, it doesn't move. I checked the cable behind the cover and it's hooked in and moves when I press the...

    Leaking oil?

Ah thank you for the replies. The weird thing is, the clutch worked fine the last time I used it. So I was gonna start it up and drive after a long time of it standing still and now it didn't work. Maybe it has stood still too long? What could have happened without me doing anything? I will...

    Leaking oil?

Hello. I'm a total newbie and recently bought a XS400. So I removed this cover and it's streaming out oil, I guess from the engine? Maybe this is normal? The reason i removed it is the clutch didn't work so I was gonna check the cable, which worked. But I noticed it was leaking oil when I...
