Yes...if a float sticks and petcock doesn't work properly you could have gas in the oil sump. Mine "hyro-locked" when the float stuck...which means the cylinders filled with gas and engine locked....I pulled plugs and manually kicked over with kick starter to get gas out of cylinders. I added an...

I'll bet you have a float bulb full of gas...that was my problem. I pulled float and shook it....could hear gas "sloshing" in one float. Before I reassembled, I blew some air into carb fuel inlet and manually operated to floats to open / close needle in the seat to assure of positive seal. Just...

I installed an in line filter too....tank interior had quit a bit of surface rust so bike needs as many filter barriers as I can get before the carbs. Tank cleaned up pretty good but still has collected a bit of "finite" material in the fuel filter. Using one of those "epoxy" fuel tank liner...

Today I gave the bike its' first "bath" since I bought it. The clear coat material on the engine casings is peeling in some places. Found a tiny "ding" under one muffler and a few paint flaws on tank. Touched up with some blue I had....not exact color match but close enough.

Sellers photo on Craigslist : "2780 original miles....$600.00 obo".....got it for $500.00. I think it was worth that...so far have spent another $190.00 and have it running good. Bonus was that the ill fitting windscreen on it fit my old BMW perfectly!....yay

Save them little itty bitty screen filters!....lol....I ordered new needles / seats but screens are separate.

    Carburetor Rebuild

I was surprised how relatively inexpensive the genuine Mikuni Parts were.....only a few more dollars and definitely will fit! Much of the aftermarket stuff around is questionable quality at best. I steer clear of "generic" Chinese parts.

Has anyone tried using a RU-2970 K&N air filter?

K & N Air Filters ?....judge for yourself..... Air Filter Tests....some pretty good info here.....https://nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html

Parts Bike with New Tires Found

I use Shinko Tires on a few of my old bikes....very reasonable prices and actually not too bad a tire. New ones are only $50.00 - $70.00 each. Not paying $120.00+ each for "high end" tires that wear out faster than the Shinko's anymore.

    Carburetor Rebuild

I found that out.....bought a replacement float assembly and the new "pin" wouldn't not seat when installed....loose as a goose. I reused the old pin.

Removing a rounded oil filter bolt

Good luck with the extractor...might work. Didn't work for me. I worked as a mechanic about a million years ago, so had a lot of extractors and different tricks to try to remove the stubborn bugger. The old "hammer & chisel" finally won the day.....lol Be careful with torque specifications...

    Carb Main Nozzle Question

Oooooh…..that looks like the one to use! No vacuum assembly. On my list! Got all the fuel system "quirks" worked out......new needles / seats.....had to replace one float assembly. My last ditch "torch" scenario must have melted a bit of solder in one float bulb seam....she got a bit heavy...

Removing a rounded oil filter bolt

Mine was completely stuck solid. I bought a replacement one prior to removal attempt as I've been through this scenario before on a few old Hondas. The chance of saving the old one was zero in my assumption....Attempted to use a "six point" 12 MM spanner wrench first....no go....then a six point...

Great little "Quicksilver" Fairing.....looks good. Nice ones are now days few and far between. Sweet bike!

    Carb Main Nozzle Question

Yes....applying heat was a "last ditch" effort to remove the float pin swivels. The carbs had soaked for over 5 days in a highly caustic carb cleaner and they were still stuck solid. I used spray carb cleaners, P-B Blaster, Silicone spray, 3 other types of penetrating oils I had on hand...none...

    Carb Main Nozzle Question

Thanks for the replies! I removed carbs yesterday AM....now knowing which direction to remove the nozzles. They came out fairly easily with just a light "love tap". No heat was needed. Someone had warned me about losing the little nozzle "guide pins", but mine seemed to be securely set in the...

    Carb Main Nozzle Question

Thanks for the reply.....finally a straight answer....plan on taking them back apart today. I'll probably use a butane torch to lightly heat to help loosen the varnish. I've rebuilt hundreds of various carbs in my years but never this particular type. These carbs were "varnished solid" in every...

    Carb Main Nozzle Question

Question....getting some confusing advice from others. When rebuilding '81 XS400 carbs I could not get the main nozzles out of the carbs....stuck solid. Reassembled carbs and got bike running today after a 15 year rest. Bike idles perfectly, accelerates fine but has a "mid range" fuel issue...
