    Idle racing

Thanks! Just got it all taken care of. The fuel mixture screws were out 4 turns, I took them down to seat then back out 2 turns and it's running perfect now. Also, found two bad soldering spots in the turn signal housing. Re-soldered them and it's good to go! Thanks for being here!

    Idle racing

Thanks everyone for your help! Carbs are rebuilt and the bike is on the road! The idle races at times though. Is this an air/ fuel adjustment issue? Running to rich on fuel maybe? Also, my right turn indicator isn't functioning. The bulbs are good so I'm guessing a wire connection isn't making...

    Petcock question.

I'm pretty sure it was spewing out out a small hole in exhaust, felt it with my hand. I re-cleaned float needle and seats and it stopped doing that. Now the petcock has given up the ghost, leaking. Easy fix, gasket. Thanks.

    Petcock question.

Initially it was leaking from airbox, before I cleaned carbs. After, itran rough and gas was coming out of a small hole in the exhaust where the muffler meats the header right by the kickstand. Also, I was looking at Mikes xs preformance carbs for xs400 on that site. $359 ain't cheap but it...

    Petcock question.

Sure. Kept it simple. Removed floats, needles and jets, soaked in cleaner and gently scrubbed them clean. The jets and needles were clogged and everything else was very dirty. It ran rough like I said so I'm thinking the carbs just need a better cleaning. I don't have an air compressor.

    Petcock question.

Thanks. Just got it back together, ran rough for about 20 seconds, got gas leaks at the exhaust pipe by the kickstand. Think I'm out of my league. May take carbs in to a pro. Know how much that runs? Thanks again.

    Petcock question.

Yes, thanks. Petcock and tank are all good. Gotta take the carbs off now, getting fuel coming back through the intake. Probably stuck floats and clogged jets. Any advice is appreciated.

Starting my clean up on my '80 xs400 special sohc. Concerns.

I drained the oil, it seemed very thin, watery. I drained the carb bowls and a green fluid came out. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Petcock question.

I'm cleaning out my fuel tank with some metal rescue. The petcock has three settings- on, prime, reserve. Where's off? It's a sohc 1980 xs400 special. Thanks everyone.

    I'm buying, one concern.

That's a relief. I was picturing fishings it out of the cranks case! Ha! I had a feeling that it had the window. Thanks for setting me straight!

    I'm buying, one concern.

I'm buying a 1980 xs400 special, needs tank and carbs cleaned, and oil change. I can do that. One concern is that the dipstick is missing off the oil fill cap. Anyone come across this before? Thoughts? Thanks.

Ready to purchase, looking for advice.

I'm going to buy a 1980 xs400 special 2. 11,000 miles, looks great, stock and clean. The current owner says it's been in storage for a couple years and the battery is dead and can't start it. $1000. He has agreed to me bringing a fresh battery and carb cleaner and gas to get it started before...
