Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

Yes, it was tested with a multimeter. I only got one, should I replace the other as well even if still ok? Is this common practice?

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

Just an update, apparently I had a dying coil which made starting more difficult. It finally died the other day. I ordered one to test and be sure it is the coil, and sure it was. The bike now starts SO EASY, it also got a little warmer here, but I think the dying coil didn't help the cold...

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

Hi Big Al Thank you for your feedback. Im pretty happy with how it rides, I dont have any hiccups or dead spots on the throttle, it still needs fine-tuning, but works well for a 43 year old :) my main issue is cold starting, I am experimenting with jets now. Thanks

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

Priming it helps, starting in the cold is slowly getting better, or the weather is getting warmer lol

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

I am still having a hard time starting it in the cold, it starts, but it takes some work (starting fluid and many kicks). When it's warm, it starts fine, when warmed up it starts on the first kick. It seems like my main issue is cold starts. When it starts, it rides nice, pulls strong and...

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

Barb is bonded with jb weld, works fine for now, doesn't seem to leak. I did the valves again, broke the valve cover plug, had to wait for a new one got the throttle spring for the carb replaced the vacuum hose It seems to run nicer, a little quieter, fewer vibrations, and maybe a better...

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

they sounded strange to me too, I planed on looking at them again. Oil is valvoline 20/50 wet clutch, and seems full. Any suggestions for a more permanent bond and seal for the manifold barb? I’m going to pick up the throttle spring and new vacuum hose from the dealer tomorrow.

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

Got to take a better look yesterday and it looks like i lost the throttle stop screw spring, not sure how i clearly remember installing it after cleaning the carbs. That thing turn like crazy from all the vibrations :) I have attempted syncing the carbs with a similar tool to what you attached...

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

Had the mike xs pods on it but changed them to UNI yesterday (it started with the mike xs ones), have a 2 into 1 setup, not sure by who but seems to be the cheap one (emgo?) image attached, but this is with the old carbs and filters It also seems to like the middle choke setting best if it says...

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

Choke knob was broken when i got it, but the rod is fine and working perfectly. It was starting and running over the weekend, still needed a tune and sync, but was working. I looked at my spare jets to see which i ended up installing and realized i had two different sizes (from all the installs...

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

So after a long (medically forced) break, I got back to working on the bike. I was finally able to get the timing done, valves, and take care of an electrical issue (with professional help). The main issues were valve adjustment, inconsistent plug spark, and many many (a lot more than I would...

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

looks to be ok i believe, it seems to turn and move freely. I will try setting the timing again as Mike suggested. Reading over the thread, i see it is normal that the engine will want to turn right when reaching the LF mark, ill see if i can hold it there again.

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

I see the notch, thank you The bike didnt run perfect under my hands, in fact the only two times i drove it was on a test run, and on my way home. I couldn't kick start the bike (kick only) when i got it, the previous owner could, it started for him on the 2nd or 3rd kick on several occasions...

Hi all, I need help 1977 not starting

So i am assuming the ATU can be 180 out and bike will still run? I will do this once i get home, hopefully, it is not going to rain today and i can get some work done. Im familiar with the 3 notches on the cam, not sure about the notch on the backing plate, but i suppose ill see it when i have...
