    Throttle Shaft Seals

Are you sure 256-14997-00-00 is the correct part number? Everywhere I find them says these are incompatible with the XS400.

    Gearing

My Maxim runs about 11mph per 1000 rpm in 5th gear. So, 55mph at 5000 rpm. My speedo reads high, but I got the true speed using a speedo app on my phone.

    Speedometer Reading Too Fast

I bought my 1982 Maxim last fall and, except for a short test drive before purchase, took first real ride a couple of weeks ago. I quickly realized the speedo seemed to be reading high. Check against gps confirmed it. Examples: 35 on the speedo is 30 on gps; 55 on speedo is 48 on gps. The...

1982 Maxim DOHC valve clearance question

1982 Maxim DOHC valve clearance question

Just bought this bike a few weeks ago, and I'm doing the usual things. Today checking valve clearance. As near as I can tell, no one has ever touched the valves. All bolts -- on the engine hangers, wire hanger and the valve cover -- showed no signs of ever being touched by a wrench or screw...

    Introduction and a Tire Question

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll have the winter to think about it. The tire is a Kenda with date code 0818 and only a few hundred miles, so would be a decent used tire for someone. Not many choices on the market for a 3.00-19 or 90/90-19, must be an uncommon size.

    Introduction and a Tire Question

Hi all. Bob here from north central Minnesota. Took up riding just two years ago as a retirement project. Love the old Japanese bikes, and love that the market has plenty of low-priced, low-mileage motorcycles just waiting for a bit of wrenching to get them back on the road. I recently bought...
