It's on the right side mounted to the horizontal cross brace, under the side cover. Mine's also an 80 special.

First thing to check is "did the cable break?". Make sure the cable is pulling at the carb. With no change in RPMs, and no return it sounds like the cable is broke, or disconnected.

I agree on replacing the float valve. But while you're at it.... buy this o-ring kit, and replace every o-ring in the carbs. There are surely others that are worn.

They were suzuki ls650 shocks. Fair warning though, they are stiff as fuck. My 290lb neighbor even commented on how stiff they were. My 110lb wife can't even move them. Might as well be a rigid.

You should be able to find one with the right ratio, and km/h. Search for either custom chrome mini speedometer, or drag specialties mini speedometer. I think it's the same item. Probably made by some chinese company.

Is the ratio the same? I thought 1 was 2:1, and the other was 2240:60.

Don't the inserts sit at a particular angle? (haven't looked in a long time) If so, how are you going to get the lens to face the right direction when screwed in? Last time I had to modify signals it involved drilling a hole through a 2" carriage bolt to replace the short one that come on them...

You could be running lean on the right side. I would start by doing a plug chop or a few (for different RPM ranges). If you are running lean on the right it could be as simple as doing a thorough carb cleaning to solve the problem.

I would look into your states title system before trying to figure out the bike. Being questionable, and the owner knows it, it will be there for a while. Some states are easy with a few bucks, a little paperwork, and a few weeks time. Others are all but impossible. Illinois for example...
