    Vin number

Thanks. I was just curious as to what I might find. the number on this 82 xs400J is 000569 that seemed like a pretty low number to me. Don't know if that means diddly squat, but thaought I would try to find out.

    Vin number

I recently did some work on a freinds xs400j. I thought it had a pretty low Vin number 000569 or close to that. Is that a low number, how many of the 82s were made? Any info is appreciated. RonAmuck

    Hello Everyone.

I did use the wrong term sorry. It is the fiber plates that are litterly burnt to a the point of being flakey. should I do anything to clean up the metal plates. And thanks for the advice on the spring bolts. I thought that seemed wrong but wasn't sure.

    Hello Everyone.

After 4 oil changes including Yamaha 20w50 and no real change in the slipping problem, in fact it may have been getting worse, I pulled the basket. Could have saved all the effort and money up to that point. some of the plates are so fried it was unreal. Anyway, I took a chance and have orded a...

    Hello Everyone.

so, I have the out side housing off the Clutch, It seems a bit dryer than I thought it would be, but it has been at least 48 hours since I had it started. My questions this time is, shouldn't all the plates move when I pull the clutch lever. At the present it is just the outer two. Ronamuck

    Hello Everyone.

I had a 1500 Vulcan apart added a stronger spring, but that was 10 years ago, I had to get some coaching vie phone to get it back together right. I sat cross legged on the floor by the bike with an ear piece in my only good ear, while a VROC guy walked me through how to put it back together...

    Hello Everyone.

LOL It may be hard to get across but the general idea is what i need. I think, since the bike was not running when it was handed over to me and the matter that I don;'t know how long it had been sitting, and that I have no idea if it was slipping before or not, I am going to take it apart and...

    Hello Everyone.

I went and took another long look at the empty oil containers it used with last oil change. I think I will be changing again real soon. "IF" I get the proper oil, should I expect instant good results. By that I mean can I plan on the clutch to quit slipping right away, or should I expect...

Lift / stand / lift table advice DOHC

HI I am new to this group and probably have more questions than answers, but I have done a little wrenching, Not a lot, but some. I have an inexpensive lift I got at Harbor Fright, it will fit under the 400. I put two wood 1X4 across the rails and that softens the touch or the engine on the...

    Hello Everyone.

50 seems a little thick for the pacific north wet this time of year?? not trying to argue or start an oil thread. Trying to be sure I understand. Still don't know if there is still enough gas left behind to be causing the slipping or if it is an oil problem or if the plates are just shot. Want...

    Hello Everyone.

Thank you for your reply. I used 10 w40 but nothing with detergents.
