leaky from under the chain cover

I just replaced mine. I got the seal from Bike Bandit. Installing it was very easy. Just pull out the clutch shaft, hook onto the old seal and pull it out. Before you install the new one, remove any burr/smooth the corner of the hole the seal goes into so it doesn't get snagged when your pushing...

    New issues

Yea, that's the part that doesn't fit. Something has had to change if it ran good then for some reason refused to start after just sitting. It's the only thing I could think of since you have spark, the petcock is releasing fuel and the bowls contain some gas and it fires up with starter fluid...

    New issues

You have spark and it runs with starting fluid. Have you checked your fuel level in the bowl with a clear tube. Maybe your fuel level is too low and not enough vacuum to pull the fuel into the cylinders. I always double check the levels visually. Setting only by measuring the float height...

    Which oil?

Another vote here for Rotella 15-40.

    Will not idle reliably

Sounds to me like your developing a vacuum in the fuel tank. Make sure your tank cap is venting properly.

    rear spacer

niko The drum side spacer on my 1980 XS400SG is 33mm in length. The smaller one on the sprocket side is 19.5mm. EDIT: I'm sorry, I didn't read you post carefully enough. You asked about the spacer for an 18" wheel, my wheel with the 33mm spacer is 16 inch. Carl

Found a 650 for 800 runs quick thoughts

Ace: I've been a member of XJbikes.com for a couple of years and can honestly vouch for them as a truly friendly forum. Searching the archives there will yield you help with any problem you encounter with your bike. The reason I've been a member there is because this XJ750 Seca is my daily...

    Pics and a video

The tach just seems a little sluggish. Out on the road it runs up OK at the higher RPM.s I'm pretty sure these are the stock bars. I know they are old school, but I like them. I feel like Fonzie riding this thing.

Fixed the oil leak, adjusted the clutch and brakes. Only thing left is to find a right foot peg rubber and replace or paint the front brake lever. Here are some pics and a video of it running. Hopefully this video link works.

    Intoducing Josha

My bolt also snapped exactly at the same spot. Research showed this to be quite common on our bikes for some reason. I found one on eBay without problem for about ten bucks. I'll bet it won't take long for one to show up.

    It's alive!

Its the same seat but I re-shaped the foam to remove the step and I also trimmed the bottom of the seat pan to remove the "point" that dipped down behind the side cover to give the seat a slimmer appearance. I also re-covered the seat with medium weight vinyl. One of the things that made itself...

    It's alive!

After a tear down and rebuild that took just about 1 year, I started it this morning and was able to take it for a ride. It started after about 5 or 6 kicks with no choke. Of course there are some items that made themselves evident during the ride, but overall it ran great, idled smoothly at...

Quick question on fuel mixture screw.

I just went into the garage and checked the package my screws came in. They sent me part no 48-5014. That's different than the part number you listed. The funny thing is I only ordered the oring and washer, but they sent the screws and springs also. That may be why my screws were the wrong size.

Quick question on fuel mixture screw.

I just ordered the set from mikes that they listed for the BS34's. The screws i received were a little shorter than the existing ones in my carbs. I had just removed the factory plugs, so I know that the existing screws were stock. I just used the new oring, washer and spring on my existing...
