hello, new to the xs400 forum

Welcome BadLuck. As crush pointed out, we do have the PDF downloadable manuals at our disposal here. I would suggest printed/saving one of those before tearing into any project on the bike. It will also have most of the fluid info that you seek.

Welcome man! Seems like a pretty good deal to me. The rear could be a frozen brake, or maybe a frozen sprocket, or maybe chain as well.

I'm pretty sure you won't have a problem getting rid of the drum set-ups if you decide to swap.

    Your Opinion

When you look at the bike, look at the top of the engine, towards the rear, directly below the carbs....There should be a chrome cover with 2 bolts holding it down....THAT'S where your starter used to be. It actually may still be there if you're lucky, some people just disconnect them and remove...

    bigger engine

After seeing Sky's XS650, it makes me want to grab another engine and turbocharge the hell out of it, then throw it into the hardtail....NOW THAT WOULD BE SWEET!!!! His bike is sick....turbocharged, fuel injected, and running Microsquirt! The only hard thing to do would be to find better...

    Your Opinion

Oh, ok. I thought he was saying that the wheels were aftermarket....Just seemed like stock spoked wheels, but I see. Well I'm glad it seems to run and shift well, it sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Carbs are pretty easy to clean and adjust once you get inside of them. Plus, you have a ton...

    new tracker on the block

Looks good man! Nice work! The only thing I would say is that the bike would look a lot better now, to me at least, with an extended swingarm....I know it isn't carrying with the "tracker" feel, but it seems to me that a longer swingarm is needed to fill in the space under the new rear frame...
