Holy Grail of XS400 Big Bore Pistons

To update to this. Crazypj mentioned on another thread that xs650 liners and gsxr1100 78mm pistons would be able to fit. If thats true then we would have a 501cc engine. But later I believe he went on to use gs500 liners and pistons. Gs500 uses an 18mm wrist pin with a 26mm crown height. Im...

My Cafe Racer Build (and Re-Build)

Maybe I missed it somewhere but are you going with Flat side carbs? are these TMs or PWK? I cant wait to see this thing run. I will have questions on how you like your carbs, your megacycle cam, and the rs125 forks. Its a general consensus that these bikes are not worth putting money into...

Any popular aftermarket carbs fit my 81 xs400?

I had vm30s on my xs400. They worked okay but it left me wishing for more throttle response. I got the vm26 kit from speedmotoco and have been very happy with it ever since, although I did have to play with jetting as its not fully bolt on. Throttle response is as fast as I can whip the throttle...

    carb issue

I have speed motos kit and it's okay. Raise the needle one spot or too and you will be able to ride it. I've been emailing them for a year now. I dont like the needles they send with it. One thing I suggest is getting the 90 degree elbow for the throttle cable on top of the carbs. This will make...

    Adding 90 degree elbows

So for my mikuni vms I dont have alot of space right above my carbs and its affecting my throttle. So how do I go about adding the 90 degree elbows? Do I just cut off the appropriate length of the sheath? Sorry if this is a dumb question

Can someone explain mikuni VM needles to me?

Under wide open throttle the bike performs well but going from cruising 3/4 or 1/2 throttle down to idle, it will hang and not want to go down to idle. Carbs are synced and throttle cable is not hanging up. Timing is spot on.

Can someone explain mikuni VM needles to me?

Right now I've got a 5f21 needle and a 182 n-8 jet needle and I need to go to a richer with the needle. When I'm looking at the chart from mikuni or sudco its just not making sense to me.. Can someone give me a dumbed down version on how to choose jets?

Running VMs but its way too rich

Thats great TimBuz! Have you taken her for a drive yet? Whats your jetting set up right now? Also are you sure you hanging throttle is an air leak? I'm going round and round with my vm26s. I swear they should send an extra gasket set because you have to take these apart so many times to...

Running VMs but its way too rich

Well Timbuz I hope you havent ordered the VM30s yet because I just went on a ride with the vm26 and I cant stop grinning. Throttle response is absolutely incredible, hardly any lag compared to my VM30s. Granted I didnt get the 30s tuned in very well but everything I did I was either too rich or...

Running VMs but its way too rich

Okay for the VM30s I had: Main: 150 Pilot: 30 Needle: 6F5 Slide: 2.0 Air screw: 1 turn out Needle position: leanest (which it did not like, go to middle. I had it at middle, shop changed it to this ) The bike would start up fairly easily and would go down the road but there was...

Running VMs but its way too rich

I just got the vm26s today. Swapping them over right now I'll let you know how it goes. I'm not sure how they will perform as the difference between the two are pretty big. I know the carbs will have more air velocity though! I will also post of specs with what I have once I get them off. Glad...

Running VMs but its way too rich

You mind posting up a video? I have VM30s and can not get it to run right with primary style emulsion tubes. When I had the bleed type I could get it to run decent to were I wasnt scared that I would get stuck somewhere. Still ran very rich, fouled plugs all the time until I switched to iridium...
