    So, this happened...

I was cleaning my carbs in the garage today. Which means I had time to clean my carbs in the garage today. Which means my youngest daughter is finally old enough that I can get away into the garage to clean my carbs. So, yeah. I'm pretty stoked about that. Time to get working on the...

    New bike?

I have a line on a nice, complete, running 1975 XS650. $1000 all in. I'm thinking maybe if my contract extension works out, I'll have a runner to ride this summer while I finish the XS400 Bobber... more details to come!

Going to look at a 1978 XS - will I own an SOHC too?

Found what looks like a complete, well maintained 1978 runner for $600 not far from my house. Anything I should keep in mind when checking it out?

Need some help with crud identification

I'm pretty sure I know what this is, but I need the opinion of the masses. I went out to drain carbs and put the battery on a charger for the winter, and I noticed two things: 1, nothing came out of the drain plugs on the carbs, even though they sloshed, and 2, there was a growing brown...

    Motion Pro for Custom Cables

I ordered a set of custom cables from Motion Pro to accommodate my clip on handlebars - I needed about 7 inches taken off both sides. Cables came from California to Canada in about 8 days, and looked great! But... The throttle cable was too short. Not the housing, the cable that runs...

    Awesome Garage Sale Find!

4 foot tall Craftsman two piece tool chest. My parents called me, knowing I was looking for one. They'd spotted it on a walk, and it was listed for $300, and was in great condition. THat would have been a good deal. I talked them down to $260. Now it was a better deal. Then I found out...

How street legal should I be?

Street legal is a tough one to define if you're not a cop around here. For instance, I'm thinking of doing away with my signals. It's legal here to signal with hand signals, so I think that's legal. I'm thinking of not running fenders. I think that's legal, as long as I don't sell the...

    Left mirror reverse threaded?

Is it? Or did the PO just put locktite on it to vex me? I just can't get it to budge lefty loosey (or righty tighty, for that matter, but if I knew for sure which way to crank it, I'm sure I could get it off...) 1983 DOHC Maxim, if it matters.

    Thinking about buying another bike...

This just popped up on the not-so-local kijiji today: http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-touring-1981-Honda-CBX-W0QQAdIdZ391969415 Honda CX500 1982 in what looks like really good condition for $500. Might not be a runner without carb work, and there are no pics of the...

    Trouble focussing today...

Because this is cooking next to me in my home office (aka the dining room.) How's a man supposed to work with ribs slow cooking next to him? How Godammit How?

    Ignition 3-wire question

My ignition has 3 wires, but my manual states 4 (manual is for the Seca, so there may be a small difference there. Red, Brown and Blue. I'm pretty sure that if there's three wires, then when I turn my key, all three must be connected, right? Thoughts, or the correct wiring diagram anyone?

    Favourite bike blogs

I'm always looking for inspiration, and was wondering what blogs everyone here looks at. Here's my main sources for inspiration: Bike Exif - of course. Casque de Moto - Mostly on helmets, but posts about half and half on bikes. Moto-Mucci - a builder who posts his inspiration. Pipeburn...

    Poor XS400s

Just wanted to start a thread to post some of the poor XSs that have fallen behind. Hopefully someone will buy these and make them good again. Links may break after some time, as the for sale threads go down...

Wanted - Gauge bracket dampers (rubber bits)

I've misplaced my gauge bracket dampers. The Maxim uses 4 to mount the gauges to the top of the triple tree. They're basically rubber grommets with a metal centre piece that keep your gauges from rattling off. Anyone have an extra set?

DOHC Maxim - need a hand with a side stand picture

Of all things, I can't remember where the other side of my side stand spring goes. One half loops around the peg on the side stand, and the other side hangs somewhere on the frame - can anyone point out or show a picture of where it attaches to the frame?

I wish I could rationalize this jacket

I ride now with a really good quality Joe Rocket red leather jacket. Full armour, but it looks a little dated. But it works. I like things that just quietly work (although with all that red, it LOUDLY works.) But I love this jacket (ignore the model who looks like he's having a bad day...

What finish should I put on my tank?

I'm down to three potential ideas for my tank. The first is to celebrate the long and lustrous history of the penny in Canada. Our Glorious Leader, the Prime Minister has decided that we shouldn't have pennies anymore. So I was thinking of maybe doing something about that, and either...

    Music in your Garage

I don't know about you guys, but I just love working on the bike with the music blaring. Band of Skulls, Foo Fighters, Black Keys, and Beastie Boys are all in high rotation on the garage sound system (the ancient crackly boom box with CD player and double tape deck!) What do you listen to...
