Quickly clarify for me - you replaced the richer jets (with what?) or your replaced with richer jets?

New to xs400.com but not finding it helpful!

Juju - to help you see when people respond: In the GARAGE forum, note that at or near the top, on the right hand side is something that says "Forum Tools". Click the little downward pointing arrow and click "Mark this forum read". Now every time you come back you can see what the new...

    Brake caliper separation after use?

Quick and dirty answer: it's the banging of the rotor that pushes them back (sort of). I think it's partly the rotor, partly the deflection of the rubber seals. But you'll need someone smarter than me for the actual inner workings. As long as the cylinders and pads can move freely and the...

Needed: Rotor Puller (Portland, Oregon, USA)

Seriously? Just a regular bolt? No left-hand twisty, custom-beveled, thing-a-ma-jig? Shoot... I can do that. I just assumed there was some "mystery" behind the thing judging from the typical online price of $50-70...

Needed: Rotor Puller (Portland, Oregon, USA)

6 weeks ago I found the rotor puller online for $2.42. I paid for it, plus shipping, and have been checking the order status on their website ever since. The website appears to just keep incrementing the expected delivery date by one... :wtf: So far, they won't respond to...

What are these bikes really worth...

Here is what is typically listed on Craigslist in this area: $800 http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/mcy/4718308428.html I'm more than happy to let Ginger race/ride my bike any time she wants if that'll bring it's value up. I'll even give her the code to the garage door! I'm probably...

What are these bikes really worth...

Alright, I saw this on Craigslist locally and am thinking it's priced too high: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/mcy/4717979394.html :wtf: Am I right? Or should I consider putting up my bike for sale too?

    Problems starting/staying started

Quick question: do you have a fuel filter inline between the tank and the carb? It's pretty easy to have a clean carb clog back up if the tank is a mess. I wouldn't suspect the intake boots. While they may cause the bike to run lean, they usually won't stop the bike from running...

Trying to start, sounds clacky (audio)

I've got to imagine that as long as you were close to the original size springs, you'll be ok. My starter clutch is next on my list. Fortunately, I've found NOS parts just down the road for a reasonable price. Glad you got it fixed!

    Starter clutch modification

Guys...I'm not mechanical enough to attempt this, but check out what's been done on another Yamaha that used a similar 3 ball starter clutch: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=908967 This guy modified a more modern sprag clutch, and then drilled and tapped the rotor so it...

Trying to start, sounds clacky (audio)

Ok... I just found this online. I think I finally get what's going on... Although, in our case I don't think it is back rotation we are worried about. I think what happens is that once the engine starts it is turning more quickly than the starter clutch...

Trying to start, sounds clacky (audio)

I've not been into my starter clutch yet. Is it the flat end of the larger cylinder that engages against the thin metal disk to start the bike? If so, is there any way to shim behind them to make up for the metal that's worn away? --Nevermind... I found a great write-up someone did...

    Exhaust baffle repair ideas needed

I don't have a camera handy, but I'll get some pics up as soon as I can - just in case anyone wants to see what I ended up doing. A 2" fender washer, some nuts, bolts, and an L-bracket. It's enough to keep the exhaust from bellowing directly out the muffler without really changing the...
