    Who sells float valves

Needing a pair of float valves for a 1980 XS400. Mikes XS is out of stock and has been for a while for the 80-81 valves. They have ones for 1979. Does anyone out there know who else sales these valves? THANKS!!:bike:

    would these fit?

pretty sure you could adapt xs650 stock flanges to fit, there are lots of them around, I am sure I have several stock sets . XS650 pipes will slip into a 1980 xs400 exhaust port but the angle the port faces is different. xs400 is straight on and xs650 is outboard at a angle.

    would these fit?

just tried to install a set I bought for a xs650 build on my xs400, they will bolt up fine but the collars are not long enough to hold stock yamaha pipes tightly into exhaust ports. You would need to fab a collar extension about 1/8" to 3/16" long to hold pipes tightly.

    Longest Ride...

I bet you wish you still had that 1941 HD, I would sure like one. Not because it is a HD but because it is old and cool.

To Winterize or NOT to Winterize?

It is best to ride it whenever weather permits. Just keep the battery up and charged. Indoor storage if you have it. We have pretty long cold winters here in Idaho and I find it best to get them out and run when the snow melts between storms.

    bad seals, big puddles

Been building xs650s the last couple of years and just picked up a partial done brat style xs400 bobber. Pretty cool bike but leaves a lot of oil where ever it gets parked. Always changed the counter shaft, clutch shaft and shifter shaft seals on the 650s, Do the 400s also need the same seals...

    Which oil?

The best oil is clean oil and Rotella is inexpensive enough it can be changed often. Had a lot of little oil seeps when using synthetic oil, been told it has a smaller molecule and therefore seeps out easier.
