    My 78 xs400 Cafe Racer

The timing was way off, I adjust it per manual, i think that's why it was popping. The plugs were nice and brown, don't look rich or lean. Now though I have no spark. Tried new plugs and a new battery, maybe it's the killswitch?

    My 78 xs400 Cafe Racer

Having an issue with the bike, I've ridden it 300 miles so far without a hitch. I rode it 30 miles to work the other day and now I have a problem. My right cylinder pops from the exhaust at 4k, idles fine, revs fine but hold the throttle at 4k and up and it starts popping. Also my blinker fuse...

    1978 Yamaha XS400

Hey nice bike, I have the exact same one. This is unrelated and a shot in the dark, but your user-name made me think of it. Do you remember an old BMX vhs tape called Soil? I had it when I was about 12 when I used to race BMX bikes. I've been searching for it for years, I think Ryan Nyquist made it.

Haha I never saw it as a spider web until now, thanks... I've slid the headlight down a few inches since those pics, looked off. The computer does odometer, time and I think trip time. Yes I used 2 rare earth magnets for the sensor.

Threw some polished aluminum dirt bars and Sigma bicycle computer on the bike, so much fun to ride this thing.

I like them, they're loud enough but not obnoxious and I really like the tone. I will say this though, the packing inside them is trash. The original packing was almost all gone within 50 miles. Great little pipes for the price though. I agree, I mentioned that on another forum where I have...

Chopped down the tail a bit, 3/4" off the entire bottom of the tail and another inch off the front. I think it looks way better, Also got some red paint for the tank/tail. Here's a pic after the chop:

I touched the engine case while running & got zapped!

MIKESXS! I switched to the xs650 coils they have xs performance wires and NGK caps. The coils on my xs400 aren't changealbe, the new 650 coils are, and they are compatible with xs400's.

Thanks for the welcome guys, What's up Steeze? I needed a tail big enough to fit everything under it and fit the frame. At first I thought it looked big but it really grew on me quickly and I love it now. It's also WHITE, when it's panted to match the tank I think it will blend in better.
