    newbie bad petcock ?

not really doing damage. the floats in your carbs stop the flow once they get enough fuel in the bowls (assuming they are set correctly).

Before i put these things back on again.

Carbs are leaking gas into airbox? Float height is probably off. Don't listen to haynes... do this: http://www.xs400.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9857

    ultrasonic cleaning

Local shop here refused to do my 81 carbs. Said they had too high of a chance of oxidizing. Even after I told them I've cleaned them in my dishwasher before, they still wouldn't do them! Back to tip cleaners+solvent for me.

    Confusing float height

Sorry for another float height thread... But I cant find the answer. Im setting up my 1980 Bs34's... Cleaned a few times, new pilot plugs, new float valve+seat. All thats left is setting float height. So the carbs are sitting upside down, bowls off. The Haynes says 32+-1mm. Ive also...

    Breather filter question

I popped a K&N one on mine. Barely fits under the carbs... in fact I have to take it off to get the carbs on/off. Got it from Summit I believe.

    Another pod question

Assuming you have a SOHC, you can buy these https://www.mikesxs.net/product/15-0035.html and fit them right on the carbs and have room with stock battery box. Makes taking the carbs off alot faster. All you have to do is take off the pods, then the carbs off the boots. 5 minute job...

    replacing front brake hose

I used HEL brake lines on my 07 YZ250F and loved the quality/fit of them, so I bought a front line for my XS. Haven't rode with it, but lever feel is way better than rubber line... and the fit was good (81 XS with drag bars). Plus, you can get them with different hose color and fitting color...

What did you do with your XS today?

Put the parts back on the bike; took the pipes off and wrapped them; and did a little more polishing. Was a good day :bike:

What did you do with your XS today?

Stayed a bit after work and got the parts sprayed: Weather looks like crap this weekend, but I'll probably put everything back on the bike anyway.

    Tank restoration

"Bondo" is poly filling too... Its all the same. Icing is just thinner. As long as you dont build it up too thick; make sure your metal is clean; and seal it as soon as you are done filing it, you shouldnt have any problems.

What did you do with your XS today?

Did a little modding on the fender. Bodywork on the tank is done. Hopefully both will be sprayed during the weekend.

What did you do with your XS today?

Successfully got the gauge glass off the speedometer to fix the loose screw that was bouncing around. The retaining ring suffered no damage in the process! Also been knocking around a couple ideas to lower the gauges. Looks awkward at stock height with drag bars.

    Carb throttle butterfly valves

Bought the carbs disassembled. On my last set I rebuilt, the screw heads were stripped so I didn't take them out.

Like a challenge? Try and solve what's wrong with my Bike.....

Check to see if the plug wires are mixed up. I had that on my bike, fuel; spark; and compression but could not get it started. Swapped the plug wires and it was running within seconds. Easy test to do.
