    PB Blaster and a cordless impact driver. I have had to slice a flathead slot in float bowl screws before. Then replacement allen heads from your favorite hardware store.

    I just got my '81, but it seemed that you could kind of peer down from the top and almost see the window from the inside. Couldn't you somehow bend a coat hanger with a cloth FIRMLY taped to the end and wipe it? Just don't drop anything in there...

    That does sound like a lot of work, but as you say, if that is half the fun, then go for it. If it were my design, I would go with an aftermarket cap, maybe an elevated one. I'd remove the yammy logo and weld in bungs for a clear sight tube, and a big obnoxious-sticking-out petcock.... Wait...
