New to me 80 G What do you think????

Not sure if you can see it but the tank is an ivory/cream, frame is all satin black and the headlight housing and bars are a dark brown to match the saddle bag. I am working on a new seat that will also be brown. Either leather or corduroy. Not sure yet. The corduroy will not be water resistant...

New to me 80 G What do you think????

Hello all, Here are some pics in the sunlight. No sure if they will be much better, but here they are. I'm still trying to come up with a seat, I've gone through several and am just not satisfied. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The pic of the two bikes was taken at my buddies...

Re-positioning rear suspension?? OK, or no good?

I think I would move the top back. you could then set the shocks to the longest position to get the extra distance. From the looks of your pics of it, it would line up nicely.

    Runnin Too Hot?

Definitely lean. I had an old honda that was doing similar things. I stuffed a T shirt in the box and it pulled more fuel. Try cupping your hand over the hole in the box and see if you can get it to react. It definitely needs all of the components of the intake to run properly, without modification.

What did you do with your XS today?

I finally took some pictures of mine! It was a pain in my ass though. My camera's sd card doesn't fit my computer, so, I had to get my old camera which doesn't hold a charge and plug it into an extension cord to get them. I'm going for a ride this afternoon.

How to Add an inline Fuel Filter

That's how you do it. Inline filters are pretty self explanitory. However I will add that some of them have an "in" and "out" side and won't work right if they're backwards. I don't rock one personally, I like to keep my tank clean.

New to me 80 G What do you think????

Well the pics were huge......But I resized them here they are! Also, the right side cover holds kill, lights and E. start. The turn/horn switch is sweet, I couldn't find one that was only horn and turn, but low and behold I found one while cleaning the garage! also found the front fender...

New to me 80 G What do you think????

Howdy! Thanks to all of you, I am back in business. Here are some pics of my ride. The weather here at 9000ft has been awesome the last week and I have been out riding every day. I wish I had some pics of it the day I got it, but I don't. It was nasty chipped black with a stock seat and...

New xs400 owner. Need opinions to customize.

Howdy, Try Craig's list for the bars. if you wanna go really cheap, just measure the length that you want, go to the hardware store and get a length of 7/8" steel. Drag bars are cheap and fairly easy to find. Motosport.com has them for $20. I just ordered some signals from them but the shipping...

Blowing fuses upon install with key in the "off" position

Hey, sorry for the delay I have been without internet. I am happy to report that I am back in business. I switched coil wires and after two kicks, it fired right up! I want to note here that my bike is a 1980 xs400G the Haynes manual wiring diagram for the G and SG models shows gray to...

Blowing fuses upon install with key in the "off" position

Haven't blown em off yet. Also, I have pods instead of stock intake. Not sure if the jetting was done to compensate but I would imagine so since it was running just fine before I started "tinkering". I will check the coil leads. As it is now I think I have the gray going to the drivers left...

Blowing fuses upon install with key in the "off" position

That is good to know. Okay so, I rewired today. Made a few new connections even though they looked okay. I did in fact have a bad ground connection. Wrong wire gauge in clip connecter. I turned it over and after a few kicks I got one loud backfire. The tank was off, I sprayed some starting...

Blowing fuses upon install with key in the "off" position

Connection to the pick ups is good. I re-tested the coil windings and read 3.7 primary and 17.5 secondary. This is abnormal, yes?? Would this cause me to have no spark?? Checked over all of the connections again and everything has power, a full 12v at that. I will draw up the diagram that I...

Blowing fuses upon install with key in the "off" position

It does seem odd that the TCI would just go out. Especially since it was working a week ago. The kill switch is working correctly as is the fuse. I am getting power everywhere it needs to be. The only thing I can think of is the connection to the pick up from the TCI.

Blowing fuses upon install with key in the "off" position

Alright, I need just a little more help. Since my last post I have completely taken out the wiring down to each component and started fresh. I am running head and tail lights on their own circuit, and ignition and charging systems on the other. The lights circuit is good to go. My...
