1982 Maxim 400 Complete Tear Down and Rebuild

Awesome, thanks Jeff. Seems like a bit of a silly thing to ask, but I'm glad it looks like I haven't buggered anything yet!

1982 Maxim 400 Complete Tear Down and Rebuild

Been rebuilding the engine, got it all painted and pretty. Just waiting to get the cylinders back from the machine shop. I've noticed that since installing the starter motor that the engine will only turn over in one direction. When I turn it in gear, the drive shaft or whatever you might call...

    All over the place...Maxim/Seca build

Hey there, I'm about ready to paint my engine covers/cases and I was just wondering how you went about doing so? It's pretty cold out where I live, and the paint I'm using says to spray at around 20°C. I was thinking I could keep the paint can warm indoors until I'm ready to spray and heat the...

    All over the place...Maxim/Seca build

Wish I could give you some feedback, but I actually haven't got the chance to ride it with the R6 shock yet! Still working on getting it running :banghead:

1982 Maxim 400 Complete Tear Down and Rebuild

Just noticed I've got a few more pics here that I've yet to post, added custom machined bars, headlight and mount. I had to use the top triple tree from an RS125 Tuono, as it's already drilled and beefed up for risers. I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild at the moment, DynaGlide and Jeff0113...

    All over the place...Maxim/Seca build

Oh man, I've got an R6 monoshock on my bike right now as well. Had to modify the frame and swing arm quite a bit to get it to fit though. Not sure how yours is gonna fit seeing as it's looks to be a different year than the one I have. Good luck!

    All over the place...Maxim/Seca build

Awesome thread man! I'm loving all the DOHC engine/build threads going around here. Just a bit curious about the bearing shells from the XJR1300 you're using. In the DOHC manual it says that there are specific colour coded bearing sizes to match up with the crankshaft and con rods. Don't know if...

    DOHC Seca/Maxim Engine Differences

Thanks for the input guys! Good thing I'm not building a performance machine here. Think I'll go ahead and use the heavier flywheel, seeing as it's in much better condition. Always really neat to hear about what goes into engine design and how much "little" things can change the overall running...

    DOHC Seca/Maxim Engine Differences

Awesome. I figured it would, just wanted to know anyone else had any experience with mixing up the crankshafts. Thanks!

    DOHC Seca/Maxim Engine Differences

Hey all! I've recently started an engine rebuild here and I have a Seca engine as well as a Maxim engine. My plan is to use the best bits out of both engines. I've checked part numbers and it seems that the crankcase, head, cylinder, valves, camshafts and most other internals are all matching...
