Help on fixing this oil leak

Sup guys! So I have an oil leak right at the crankcase cover where the rubber grommet surrounding the stator wires slides into the little notch. I've tried sealing this thing a few times and I've got it down to a very slow drip...but i haven't gotten it to go away completely. What seemed...

    Permanent Magnet Alternator Mod

For anyone who's curious, I finished this mod, and it works excellent! the only thing for me was that i dumbly did not put any oil or gasket maker around the gaskets and had a little oil leak going on. I'm gonna have to remove the crankcase cover again and seal it up better, but other than that...

    Permanent Magnet Alternator Mod

Obviously its a lot to ask for an re-explanation of the wiring, but should I not keep that wiring job that I did? should the wires from the stator go directly to the regulator rather than into the 3 wires that previously came off the stator?

    Permanent Magnet Alternator Mod

Allanrps, Yeah I'm still working on it! I got the construction done, and lightly bolted on the flywheel + stator. I checked for spark by splicing the new regulator wires into the old ones and splicing in the 3 wires on the new stator to the 3 that the old stator was attached to. Basically I...

    Permanent Magnet Alternator Mod

That thread is a huge help man, but what I'm talking about is the very first step in your guide! Right after you removed the old coil and stator. You mention that there are two wires that connect to weird spots on the engine and that they are the oil and neutral indicator lights. You say to...

    New blinkers dont link

    New blinkers dont link

I appreciate the responses guys. No, the bike is not modded in any way electrical wise. The new blinkers are not LED bulbs, they are incandescents. The new bulbs are 12volt and 10watts. I have not tried them with the engine running, would that make a difference? Yeah my first thing to check...

    New blinkers dont link

Hey guys. So I bought new signal lights to replace the stock ones that came on my '81 Yamaha XS400 because the stock ones are horribly ugly. I just bought some cheap knock-off Chinese ones (link is below). Once I installed them, The blinkers come on appropriately, but remain solid and do not...

Is it possible to remove all extra electrical components?!

Hey Everybody! I was just wondering if it's possible to run a 1981 XS400 without the battery and all other associated components (ignition coil, etc). If my understanding is correct, theoretically, it should be possible to run the blinkers, headlight, and taillight without the battery because...
