First build need some help and ideas and just to say hi to the new guy

Actually "a lot" of bobbers are not extended. The just cut the seat frame rails to right behind the rear shocks to obtain that look. I don't recommend this, but to each their own. Garage builds are always fun. Good luck and show pictures along the way.

    81 cafe RE-build from Qc

On the relay, yes it would be best to buy a new one. Here in the states I was able to buy one from a local tractor supply store. The small riding lawnmowers use the same style.

If your battery is charged, the sounds like the starter relay is not working. Or if the battery is close dead, it isn't giving the relay enough power to turn the starter.

That is correct. You will have to make sure to cap off the intake barb. Also the reserve position might get in the way of the tank, if I remember correctly.

Check with Mikesxs.net. The "newer" xs650 have the same 46mm spacing has the xs400s. But please double check me on that before ordering. I know mikesxs.net has a Canadian distributor also.

    Test motor?

Wish it was that easy... But you will have to wire in the coils, condenser, points/CDI, rectifier and a on/off switch (sure I am missing a few small things). If you just want to hear/see the engine turn over, then you can just put power to the starter and a ground to the frame. Bike looks good...

Aluminum and vinegar are the best of friends, especially after sitting for while. That gray paste is probably the aluminum breaking down. So yes a new petcock would be a must to solve your problem.

'79 Starter Solenoid - After market options?

Or a good place would be a tractor supply store also. They should have some solenoids for the smaller lawn tractors. I recently purchased one at a Lowe's here in states.

On the fronts, you will need different fork lowers along with the disc brake wheel, caliper and master cylinder. Also will need the disk brake axle. Rears of course disc brake wheel, caliper and bracket. On the swing arm, a tab will need to be welded to hold the caliper brace. Not sure about...

    No head light

Check under the right/left hand switches unit to see if there is rust under it. There are grounding tabs inside the control switches. If it is not properly grounded could be causing the light not to work.

    '80 XS400 whiteout

Yes make sure there is plenty of air to the battery. Almost blew a gel one up last year. Thought I had enough airflow, but found out otherwise. Also might think of putting space between the battery and enclosure for some circulation. Exploding/expanding batteries aren't fund to deal with...
