    New Toy.. Atlas 12x24 lathe!

I just picked this up yesterday. It's an Atlas 12" x 24" lathe from the early to mid '60s. It weighs over 500 pounds with the stand so I used my engine hoist to get it in and out of my truck. This one has the quick change gear box for threading and power feeds, and a quick change tool post...

Does this speedo fit the XS400?

As the head line states.. I'm thinking of switching my speedometer. Does anyone know if this one "Part #03-0744" from www.mikesxs.net fits? Bolt on? It's a mini speedometer with lit indicators. My head concern is the lights and if they will work? Neutral, oil and so on? Any ideas or thoughts...

    Custom Indicator Mounting

I bought some turn signals off of an auction site, but they were not as described. Instead of a 1 inch long 7 mm mounting stud they have a 1/2 inch long 10 mm mounting stud. Before I send them back I was wondering if anyone had any clever ideas in regard to getting them mounted. The rear is...

    build your own voltage reg

here's a link to build your own voltage regulator for the SOHC models and poss the DOHC's. I'm not endorsing it, or take responsibilty for the design. but if your stuck and you can solder, why not have a go! :D http://www.soaring.co.jp/rwstuff/050910e.htm

    Knee Dent Tank

Just thought I'd post a couple pictures of the knee dent tank I'm doing. I'm pritty happy with it so far. Although in retrospect I would have made the dents abit smaller. I started with a pritty bad tank. It was great inside but badly dented outside and covered in bondo. I didn't include...

    Rear Bearing Spacer

I think I need to fabricate a new rear bearing spacer (goes between the bearings in the hub). Does anybody have one of the spacers handy from a mag disc rear wheel (1979 XS400 D) that they could measure with some Vernier calipers? Thanks for any assistance

Wheel covers - worth the effort?

I notice that a lot of the nicest japanese chops of old Harleys have wheel covers on the back wheel, a look I really like. I have a couple of covers that fit the diameter of the rear rim perfectly so I pulled the wheel off to do a test fit. I have a pic attached. The pic is kinda crappy...

    My new bars

I got bored yesterday so I built a new set of bars for my bike. I took pics of them unpainted but will snap a finished pic also. They are made from 7/8" DOM 1/8" wall tubing, and cold rolled 1/2" round bar. I threaded the end of the bar and sweated some 7/8" thick wall DOM for collars...

    My seat pan...

I used a sheet of aluminum for the pan, hand bent it, and moved the rubber stops from the original seat back for a little cushion. I cut and re-tapped the rear signals down too. I think it looks better than having them a mile out there. I will probably finish the seat with a layer of black...
