A careless 300 year old man totaled my beloved 1978 SOHC XS400.

I found a good rolling chassis on craigslist but its a 1981. Will a 1978 motor mount in that frame easily,?

As long as they are both SOHC it should be fine. Around 81 they started making DOHC xs400s that are totally different (seca, maxim, etc).

Thanks. I had a feeling they were the same or at least close enough to be interchangeable. I am going to look at this 81, it may be just the donor I need.

Okay, I kind of figured some mounta may be different to accomadate part changes and whatnot. I want to use my motor because I know its pristine, so as long as that fits then I am satisfied. My wrecked '78 is essentially a cafe/brat stle with the abdomen gutted, and I am using very few OEM mounting points anyway because I rearranged a bunch of stuff for aesthetics. The general consensus seems to be the motor will bolt in. The rest I can Frankenstein :)
