1982 Yamaha XS250 ? ... Vin# JYA1 ... YCIS motor ... What do I have ?

Hey folks
I picked up today an 82 Yamaha 250 YCIS for cheap .... It runs and I want to go ahead and give it that flat track look ... Can anyone tell me exactly what bike I have and some things I should look at right away

Post up a pic but it sounds like you have a 250 thumper single cylinder.

No it's a twin parralel ... It's a YCIS motor ... 1982 ... Vin starts with JYA12R

Oh a 250 though? That's what threw me. The YICS is a DOHC motor and what size is yours as I didn't think they made a 250 ?

I have an 83 maxim 400 DOHC YICS motor.

It might be a 400 which would be way cooler for me ...

Is there any way to read the VIN and see what size the motor is ?
I purchased it today and taking possession of it tomorrow morning or I would have pictures to send
I have the pink and registration that states under body type is RS
Under type veh it says 220
Where would it tell me the engine size ?

Yep mine to just went out and looked at the frame as that's all that's out there............

So I would say he has a Maxim 400.

They did make a DOHC 250. Don't know anything about the vin/model codes though.

It's the 12R model. Same as me. I have a 1982 xs400j DOHC
