Well I finally got to the mixture screws on my carb, and it seems to be starting up and running great but it will randomly die. We figured it was undercharging, but found that while the bike was being revved, we read over 15v from the battery. Tested the 3 white wires from the regulator, and they were over 1 ohm which I think they’re supposed to be .75? I am having a hell of a time finding anything about xs400 stators, but I have found new regulators no problem. Would a new regulator be enough? I’d hate to kill it with something else wrong in the system. Also, the one I removed from my bike had one center screw, while the pictures of replacements seem to
Have two on a bracket on the sides of the regulator. Just want to make sure I’m not overlooking or overthinking anything here. Thanks!

The black finned one with one screw is the rectifier. The silver one with two screws is the regulator. A working replacement regulator should fix it.
