Blu's XS400 Brat Style

Alright, I'm not one to ignore advice so what do you think about this? Still gotta cut it and it will go on the other side of the motor tab but you get the idea...

Mine broke the frame mount not the motor. The top stock mounts have rubber dampeners in them because the top of the motor oscillates a bit. I would look at the metal that holes the motor and make those parts more robust. Because of the longer frame the stress points are going to be different than a stock bike. maybe consider making a support for the rear top mount on the motor.

When I slid the rear mount forward in the frame I welded a thick tab on the brake side and slid a piece of 1-1/4 .120 wall over the mount on the shifter side, fish mouthed it and welded it to the frame and the mount. Rear mount is solid, with the 1/4 thk plates on the forwards bolted directly to the front mounts they should be plenty solid too. I'll slap a top motor mount on it at some point this weekend but you're not getting a rear mount outta me too lol. Geesh ;-)

Hadn't given fork gators any thought actually, though they would probably look pretty good. Hummm... Might be a later addition...

Forward controls are done. Might change the linkage on the brake side so it follows the bottom frame rail but for now they work and I wanna move on to electrical and carbs. I'm also gonna get some rubber hose and slide it over the levers for a bit of cushion.

Started to re-jet the carb last night and found I have a bad float so that's on order. Hopefully it will show up before the weekend. One of the pilot jets was a @#$%^ to get out, stuck in there real good. Marred it up pretty bad and ended up sacrificing a screw driver to the grinder to get her out but hey, now I got a specialty tool ;-) lol. I'll probably clean up the carbs and paint them tonight since I'm waiting on the float anyways. Gonna try to tackle the wiring over the next couple days but I'm waiting on a new electrical box (biscuit tin) I ordered of eBay to show up too. It's a bit taller so it should give me more room for the switches and might even fit the new battery too. Printed off a bunch of info on the wiring off here and looked through some threads (thanks for that btw) so hopefully it wont be too bad. Electrical is my Achilles heel, absolutely hate it and it's mostly Greek to me, thank god for pictures.

Thanks man, glad ya like it! Yeah definitely ended up bouncing around on the list a little bit and I originally wanted to paint it black too. It came down to me being lazy about painting the hubs and re-lacing the wheels lol! Maybe next winter ;-) Figured the silver would look better with the hubs for now. I'm hoping to get the parts in before the end of the week, it would be great to hear it run on Sunday. I gave myself a due date of March 31st, that gives me a week to ride it before hauling it down south for my club's kick off ride of the year. Even then she's a work in progress, eventually I want a narrow mustang tank with blue metal-flake scallops and silver pinstripe, a custom leather storage bag under the seat and a few other small things I don't really have time for right now.

Ok so the wiring is done save for the rear brake switch. Pretty sure its bad as I wired it to the blue power wire from the ignition and the white wire for brake light off the light. Even flip flopped the wires on the switch, though I'm 99% sure it doesn't matter which side you hook up to. I do have running light and I know the brake light works cuz I tested the light before I put it on. Ordered a new brake switch that should be here Saturday. Also ordered a 3.3 gallon mustang tank and some new gas caps for it, hoping it won't look too big on there. I just hate the sporty tank the more I look at it. Might need to up the jet size from 145 to 147.5, the 150's from the kit were too much. Tried to get it to kick over last night but all I had was year old gas from the lawnmower and by then it was getting late so I went to bed. Gonna pick up some fresh gas and try again tonight. So freaking close right now....ugh

Gotta get some pvc pipe to fit in the h-pipe and see if I can pick up 147.5 jets locally but she is running.

I would ditch those emgo pods and get some uni filters. They tune much better and will filter much more dirt.

Do you have an inexpensive source? Checked eBay and there's only one listing for them in 54mm and they are over 20 bucks a pod and come from a distributer in Canada.... Can I put foam sleeves on these and get the same tuning ability?
