what is the cold start routine for 1979 xs 400 yamaha; 7000 mile bike been stored many yrs, cleaned carbs and now starts once in a while run with plenty of power for 1 and 1/2 minutes and stops. fuel and spark ok. seems to be related to choke setting and throttle manipulation. thank you for your help. bj

I have a 82 xs 400. I don’t use the push start only kick. What I do is wide open choke two kicks while bike is off. Turn the bike on, and it will usually start in 1-3 kicks. Then once you get it running leave it idling then down to half choke then once warm close the choke. Works well for me and my bike sits 1-2 weeks at a time
