  1. OK, went and picked up my new to me xs400 yesterday morning, and started on the build today. Theme is leaning towards street tracker, but probably a bit of cafe and brat thrown in there as well.

Tail section is from a KZ400, I'll probably change the cafe bars to superbike bars.

The XS650 tank is just for mockup as I have an xs360 tank on the way from 2eightcustoms. I told my girlfriend this is for her, and she wants to be able to ride 2 up so I'm going to make the tail section removable and the seat will just extend underneath it. I'd like to put an 18" rear wheel on it eventually, but this is a budget build with a target price of about $1000 all in. Motor will remail stock right now until it is back together and solid, but I'll probably eventually put on some cocktail shakers I have lying around, or a high mount scrambler type exhaust, or maybe high mount the shakers, and some big offroad airfilters and clean up the airbox/ battery area so I can run sans side covers. Color is yet to be determined as the woman requested a say, if we break up I can always repaint it!:D j/k Booboo!

I currently need a CDI cover and a steering stem bolt, along with the 18" rear stuff, so please PM me if you have any of this stuff laying around.

Also, if anyone has ideas about shorter clutch, brake, and throttle cables I'm all ears!

    Cheers,
    jon

iam diggin the look sofar,i just picked up a 71 suzuki gt350,thinking of going cafe with that. 2 stroke twin,,,nice and smokey

  4. Looking good already man! I like the seat idea...seen sort of the same thing on the KZ forums awhile back. The high mount pipes would look pretty sweet in my opinion.

i like the tail section idea. those clubmans and lowers front end look sick.
as for shorter cables, this was brought up in another thread, so i threw this on it, just passing it onto you. seems pretty legit, havent tried it myself tho.

  11. Roughed in the rear frame loop:

3/4" tube with solid rod gussets. I'll probably kick it up a bit as well. Like my dad always used to say: "It's like eating an elephant son: a couple of bites a day and you'll be done eventually..."

it could be just me, but it looks like the bends are uneven, other than that i like the look of it a lot. keep goin!

  13. Aren't we picky:wink2:! Pretty much "roughed in" means I'm not done yet but yeah not 100% symmetrical, really close though. If anyone notices when I'm done I'll probably have to kick them in the nuts...or labia...thanks for the feedback though.

Maybe the welding tank I bent it on was "out of round" :D

as long as it looks good no worries
its gonna be covered by the tail section and seat anyway right?
    lol

  15. Yeah, Mr. Picky Ass!! lol Looks good Crush

  16. I think with kicking it up a few degrees and final adjustments it will be "good enough for the chicks I date". It will be visible when riding 2 up, but yeah, covered by the tail section otherwise.

and the degree kick would be cool. give it a little more "ZAZ" lol

  19. I'm with Volcom on this one....Angle it up slightly in the back, and it will be spot-on!
