Just doing the new elecys on the cafe and had to change the starter motor cable for a longer one, so i had to take the alternator cover off to do this.

Now when i had it running it wasn't charging so i thought i'll repair it, i then decided to take one off one of the spare engines i've got and i found the alternator is brand spanking new and had been re-wound! Woohoo love it

WIN

you didn't need to take the alternator cover off to do the starter motor cable!

still, might as well get it done when you mitts are dirty

Hi, so my starter cable connection is also at the bottom. Some PO has removed it. Question is, can I remove the starter, connect cable and replace without taking alternator cover off? Basically will the starter sprocket stay in place.
I’m happy to do that, but if not needed saves work.
I can’t really tell from the parts diagram, and it would make sense from a maintenance point of view.
