Hey guys I plan on doing my first Vavle clearance check in my 83 Xs400 DOHC. should I use gasket sealant on the replacement valve cover gasket?

I went over the service menu and got all the tools needed to do the job. My bike is a 1983 XS400 Seca.

If it should have or had a gasket, use a gasket.

I have a new gasket just trying to figure out if I should also add gasket sealant on it. I don’t want it to leak oil.
Also it’s my first time ever doing this so I want to be prepared.

Make sure the surfaces are clean and you should be good. I like to use a little grease on the gasket to get a better seal and make it easier to remove the next time I need to take it off.

Nope...no sealant...just the gasket, maybe a little grease to help hold it in place whilst installing but that is it.
Sealant won't hurt anything but will make removal down the road a b*tch.
