Okay, I'm a fat bastard. Some of it is laziness, some is genetics. I'm half Italian, half German, two ethnic groups that can definitely produce some roly poly fatties. Judging by some of the family photos, this has been going on for generations! :) It seems the German side have big bellies and the Italian side have fat asses. I seem to have gotten both! My wife and I have both started a work out and diet plan and I've lost weight, but I'd still like to get my bike going and ride before I'm done. What shocks would all of you fine people suggest for a big guy on a light bike? I'd really like to know, since I need to get the rest of my parts and get things going. I'm almost done getting parts, but I still haven't decided on handlebars either. I'm looking for black body with chrome springs I think. Suggestions are welcome! :bike:

I know a few people have used the stock xs650 shocks with good results. There are lots of them around for cheap.

Mikes sells black with chrome springs but I read they are junk.

Check out RFY shocks, they come in multiple colors and are around 80-90$ shipped.

Mike's shocks suck. If you want good ones they cost. Call MMM at 650central, talk to him and he will put together a set of Progressives to fit your bike and you.
On loosing weight the only thing that works is to eat less calories than you burn. I did that and lost over 100 lbs and have kept it off for 20 years.

your best bet if you want performance to to set the static and the rider sag.

static on the rear is usually, 10mm and with rider 30mm. just change springs not the shocks and ask the suspension specialists (of which I'm not one of them)

I have the mikesxs 650 black/chrome 14.4" shocks; at 180 lbs (without gear) I minimally compress the shocks on the lowest setting (3" of travel I think).

I actually love them. I am in to performance riding, cornering hard, etc. I have never had any issues. I'm not sure why people don't like them. They work just fine for me and they are cheap :D
