Hey folks,
I have gotten to the point where I am looking into getting all of the tubing and joints to weld my frame loop. I have cut off the rear section of my frame and am going to be welding on a frame loop to accommodate a flat tracker/brat seat. With this I am looking at finding something to match the inside diameter and weld the loop on with a metal slug holding it on straight. I know a guy to get the welding and tube bending and all that done for me.
Problem I see is that the metal shop I am hitting up has stainless steel tubing and that's it. I have been told that if my frame is regular steel that I can't weld those two together. I know VERY LITTLE ABOUT WELDING and am wondering if there is some welding guru out there that can help me out
Any advise would be appreciated!

According to google...you can weld the two. Either find a welder you can trust, or trust the one you have!

I'm a certified welder and I would say I wouldn't weld the two together. The only reason why is because the metals have different tinsel strength this making the weld the weakest part instead of the strongest (if welded properly). I would be more apt to bolt the two metals instead of welding but that's me.

I know nothing of welding but a welder who only works with one type of material sounds like either a bad welder or a specialist. Neither of those are what you need ;)

He is in a college welding program right now, first year. He doesn't claim to know all and I trust him well enough that when we get all the materials together he can do his thing and get it welded.
I think his instructor is gonna help him/me out finding the metal but thanks for the advise everyone!

I have a welding friend that welds things up for me all the time, you can weld stainless to regular steel with problems.I have had it done on my bike.

Buy 1/8" wall DOM of the diameter you want in regular steel and bring it to them. It's not that expensive. Don't make complication for yourself. Use stainless where you need to use stainless and regular steel for the rest.
