In search of a cam shaft for a 1979 XS 400.

I do have a parts motor but not sure what year it is..............is the 79 a specific unit or ?

Not sure how big the cam is but like usps says if it fits it ships yours for shipping and a few beers.............

Yes but need to take it out. Its a parts motor I have. Maybe I could reference numbers to find out a year as I don't even know what year it is.

The engine VIN should start with 2LO. That means its a 78 or 79 xs400E.

I can check a local boneyard who deals in old bikes.

Have you checked ebay? Seems there are always things ion there.

All U.S. sohc xs400 cams are the same. The only one that maybe a little different is the 80 models. According to the manual they have a touch smaller exhaust lobe but not enough to really make any difference. Post a pic of your 79 cam. It will look the same as all the other sohc xs400 ones. It should also have a 1MO stamped into it.

Nope just saw this sorry.

Well looked and it does have a 1MO I think as the numbers are really hard to see.

Cam looks a little worn. Will shoot you some pics later.

Thanks, mine doesn't have the wings at the end where it connects to the timing mech. are those removable?

Yes it just slips on there. Its for the electronic ignition. I just left it on there so I didn't lose it......

Sorry Spectra I guess its not going to work. Mine doesn't require that tabs. '81 must have the year they made the change, Thanks a load for your efforts!
