My XS 400 Cafe Racer Project

I would go with bronze ones as they wont flex like the stock plastic or teflon ones will.

according to the old plates, that bike originally came from somewhere around my location.
OH is for "Ostholstein", that's about 40km away
The engine came out really beautiful

That's really cool :) My xs has 34 HP which is really rare in europe. I've heard that all german xs400 has limited HP to 27... This was achieved by camshaft from xs 360... anyway, my is 34 :D and i'm really happy because of that.

Yes, most european XS400 are limited to 27 HP but switching to the 34 HP camshaft has become quite common during the last years. I still need to get me one...

Hi trzcina2, very nice job, I like it

just a question :

I have an oil leak at the housing alternator here:

I bought a gaskets kit but I didn't look at it yet.

Is there oil in the housing alternator ?

Is it a hole here for oil passage? :

Side case gaskets only. I might add that these are known to leak from the alt. wires rubber grommet that is in the same area. I would look at them to make sure that is not leaking also. There are a few threads on this if you need info.

Hello again!

I'm still working on my bike... engine is in frame, the custom cover for electricity on the back is ready, but for now i'm trying to figure out where to put exhaust pipes... so the custom rear sets could work properly.

I'm thinking about positioning them like in this picture... or should i put them under the engine and make them not so exposed? What do you guys think?

I'll post more pics later...

Cheers!

Thanks!

I decided to put pipes under the frame and today, welder friend came by. We extended pipes by using old manifold which i got for free, so no more blue duck tape i hope :D I'm very satisfied with the result... Maybe exhausts are a bit wide at the ends but this could be adjusted.

I have about 15 clearance from pipes to the ground. Those Hagon shocks are freaking stiff, and even if i'm sitting on a bike they look like they didn't move at all... I really hope this bike will be "ride-able"

I'm using Pirelli Sport Demon tyres 110/90 for front and 120/90 for back, They were much cheaper than firestone deluxe and I've read they handling quite well.

More pics from the build:

This bloody mold took so many hours to make that after 2 weeks i stop counting  Never again... But the final result was quite satisfying.

I was lucky enough to get access for some expired waste of carbon fiber, so it was definitely the only one material for tail cover i was going to use :D

And the final result:

Unfortunately rear sets from peugot xr 50 i bought some time ago didn't fit with exhaust pipes and had to be custom made... So after a few hours of measuring i sat down with Corel Draw for another few hours and made final shape. They were water cuted from 1 cm aluminium sheet. Familiar turner did great work with footrests and the final result looks like this :D

I'm still not sure about tail light... It will probably be more hidden in to the fairing so it will not stick out so much.

So.... progress is going slow due to my work, however in the past week it finaly started to look like motorcycle, not like pile of parts in boxes so im really happy :D

Still a lot work to do... I'm a bit terrified about rewiring... I've read tutorials from Drewpy on this site but... I'm still not sure how should i choose right cable thickness (I now there is a equation, but i still don't know how to use it :D )

Cheers!
