Need help with kickstart

I am rebuilding My 79 xs 400. Everything worked fine when I took the motor off To paint the frame. I put the motor back on and now the kickstarter won't engage anything it just flows freely. What can I do to fix this.

I suspect to keeper that hold the crank gear in place on the shaft has come off and when you tilted the engine to get it off the frame it slid out of place. Need to take the right engine cover off to access it.
