Hello, I have recently bought a 1982 XS400SG Heritage Edition Serial # 3W5-000975,
It looks like I need a new carb boots, a new gas tank cover/cap, and I was wondering if I can order parts from ebay that fits any XS400. If not, what other XS400 models does my parts work with? Also as a new rider and a new XS400 owner, any tips on maintenance are welcome.

If you have the 82 SJ sohc xs400 most sohc xs400 parts will work. A SG model is an 80. Post a pic so we can see what you have.

It came with a 1980 XS400SG service manual, so I am guessing it is a SOHC. But I will double check, the bike is in my friends garage right now, will post pics later.

82sj Canadian version. The u.s. ones had spoke wheels with a front drum brake. Yours looks like it may have points ignition in it. The cover for it don't look like a TCI type cover. I would pull it off to see what's in there. It's the one above the left spark plug. Your model is more like the 81sh u.s. bikes other than the paint. Looks like a nice stock bike and should work very well with this setup.

Yes. To make ordering parts easy for you look for stuff for an 81. It is the same bike with no dohc 82 confusion.

Looks to be the same bike I just picked up, 1981 xs400sh...except a bit less rusty than mine!:D
