Hi, I have just purchased a 1982 heritage special and immediately got a Haynes manual on eBay. I’ve NEVER worked on a bike before in any way so the only thing I understand in the manual is the front cover.

please could you help me with my first of what promises to be many questions. I’ve read the threads about the idle screw but can’t find it in the Haynes manual.

I think this is it? (See pic). Is there a better manual for working on the bike?

    Welcome to the forum!

The circled item is indeed the idle speed adjustment screw. In addition to the Haynes, I would also get the factory manual which you can download here in the Garage forum. It is pinned as one of the first posts at the top.
