Hi everyone! Just wanted to say "Hi" before ploughing through the entire forum to learn about my new motorcycle. Got myself an almost completely disassembled XS400 with a bunch of parts.

The plan is to build a cafe racer style bike, and learn about the inner works of motorcycles. I'm not really technical, although I do believe I can do some good with my hands and the right tools.

I've just spent one night cleaning only the front chainwheel compartment.....one big clogged black mess! Hard to believe the thing could actually roll!

Whilst sorting out the crates of parts I found these two beauties:

Well...What do you think, will this get me a functional bike?

I will try to post some of my learnings on to the forum to help out!

welcome, mine came in boxes, so you have a head start :)

should make a nice project, Love the patina on the tank, should just clear coat it and leave as is

Thanks :) and you're correct!

I just finished cleaning up the engine and removing front and rear wheel, handlebars and the forks. Pushed the kickstarter down a few times and heard all inner workings run smoothly. Seems I don't have everything to build up the carburators (link plates, idle screw, bits and pieces to get the choke running...)
I've already downloaded the parts list from the forum (very helpful!!!) so going to work on my shopping list.

I will start up my own Cafe build thread to update on the progress.
