Just a status update on my machine. I rebuilt my 81 carbs in Feb12. Since then, all I have done is ride the bike. I ride year-round. I run premium gas. And it has not missed a beat in 3100 miles.

I pulled the bowls this weekend and they are spotless.

Seems like regular operation is enough to keep the carbs clean. I will let you know when I have issues.

Thanks to the keepers of this website for the good advice!

If "Rolling stones gather no moss" is a true statement, then would "Running bikes don't need carb cleaning" also be true?

My experience would indicate this to be true. :)

It is always a good idea to keep running the bike. The worse thing to do its let it sit. I went 10 years without a carb cleaning on my 79 and it still worked fine. The only reason I did it was just because it hadn't been soda blasted before.
