Hi,

I recently bought my first bike, a 1981 xs400 heritage special.
It has been in storage for quite some time...

I took apart and cleaned the carbs, soaked them and put them a back together. The bike runs now.

My problem :

I was straining out my soaking liquid and at the bottom in all the gunk, I found 2 tiny springs (a bit larger than the choke ball spring) , 2 tiny metal washers (brass?) and 2 tiny rubber gaskets.

Please see attached picture.

Can anyone tell me where they might go? I was very attentive and detailed while disassembling but these must have stuck in the carbs and come off while soaking.

Thanks for any help , glad to have found this site.

DSC03322.JPG Those go to the pilot mix screws. It should be assembled screw, spring, washer then o-ring. Did you remove all the rubber parts from the carbs before soaking them including the butterfly shaft seals? If not they could be damaged and cause air leaks.

Oh great! Yes those must have stayed inside after I removed the screws.

Thank you very much xschris !

No I did not remove the butterfly shaft seals, I soaked it in a very diluted pinesol water mixture. Everything else was apart.

Much appreciated.
