All, I just wanted to pass along a recommendation on a set of decent quality and very very affordable luggage that I have used for years on my 81 XS400 Special.
For about $50 for a full set of luggage, this was one of the best buys I ever made for my bike.
The saddle bags fit very nicely underneath the seat without getting in the way of the rear indicators. They lasted me for a couple years and saw heavy duty use and plenty of exposure to the elements. I used my bike as my primary means of conveyance during the summer for years and filled these bags to the brim with heavy groceries. After two years, the seams gave out on one of the saddle bags, but I don't begrudge that at all, especially considering the price.
The tool bag and other front bag fit nicely on the front of the forks too.
Of course, the barrel bag doesnt fit on a standard set up as its meant to slide on the back of a sissy bar, but this set is totally worth it anyways.
